Do's and Don'ts of Self Storage

DO: Pack your belongings thoughtfully.

There are plenty of steps you can take to maximize the space in your unit, eliminate damage to your belongings, and ensure a quick and convenient process every time you visit. First, we recommend a thoughtful approach to packing. If you have boxes of different sizes, try loading your heavier belongings into the smallest boxes and your lighter belongings into the larger boxes. This step will give your back a break on move-in day.

DO: Stack your boxes with heavier items on the bottom.

Once you bring your boxes to your unit, stack similarly shaped boxes together. Start with your heaviest boxes on the bottom so that your stacks don't topple over. We also recommend creating aisles of space between your belongings. That way, if you ever need something from the very back of your unit, you don'€™t have to reach or climb over your other belongings. You can also leave some space between your boxes and the wall so that air can always circulate easily in your unit.

DO: Utilize clear bins to see all of your belongings at once.

You're welcome to use any container that you'd like. We recommend utilizing clear bins with plastic covers. Unlike boxes, clear bins allow you to see what's inside of each container without having to open it. You can stack your bins like you would normal boxes and enjoy the added benefit of seeing all of your belongings at once. If you do choose to use clear bins, don't forget the lids! A plastic cover is a great way to keep your container sealed tight.

DON'T: Store illegal or dangerous substances.

We strongly advise against bringing any kind of food into your unit. Our units are clean and bug free, but insects and rodents won'€™t take long to hunt down crumbs. It's also prohibited to bring any illegal substances into your rental. These substances can include, but are not limited to: flammable liquids, illicit drugs, explosives, live animals, firearms, drug paraphernalia, toxic substances, or any other item you would want closely monitored in a safe environment. If you ever have a question about what you can and can'€™t store in your unit, please don'€™t hesitate to ask!
